Top 10 Tips to commute safely on your e-bike

Sep 02
Bike riding is indeed a fun-filled experience for youngsters and adults alike. However, e-bikes are making bike riding accessible to more people, like people with disabilities, older adults, etc. Meanwhile, the global zeitgeist is getting environment conscious, and the demand for e-bikes is increasing at a breakneck pace.
Moreover, it's a fantastic workout promoting good cardiovascular fitness and maintaining good health. Besides saving money on precious gas, you also contribute towards saving the planet.
E-bikes have become part of your daily routine, a necessity more than a luxury. Many people use e-bikes to run errands, visit friends and commute daily. We need to be safe while we are on the road. E-bikes are versatile like standard bikes but add upgrades; hence, they can match a motorcycle and a car with the help they are on the road

Safe Bike Commuting Tips

E-bikes are often much heavier than regular commuter bikes, reach higher top speeds, and usually make manageable corners and obstacles more dangerous. When riding bikes, you must ensure you are entirely safe from the start to the end of your journey. So, here are some easy safety tips that you should know
1. Become visible
Every biker needs to understand that vehicles on the road are standard, but an e-bike? Not so much. An e-bike combines the dangers of a bicycle with the speed of a motorbike - exciting, but only if you don't care for rules. Car drivers are not primed to see a rider on a bike on the road, so they never expect a bike. That's why you must become as visible as possible on the road. Wearing reflective clothing is a must, as this helps you stand out on the road. Moreover, ensure that your e-bike decals are reflective and stand out as much as possible.

2. Planning Ahead
Plan. Plan. Plan. Make a decisive plan you execute every time you leave your house to commute. You may take your clothes neatly folded in a backpack or on the bike rack to keep them from wrinkling. Keeping yourself hydrated is just as important, so packing a water bottle or an energy drink is necessary. Your bike is likely to get a flat tire, which obviously sucks. Having a pump, some tools and a spare tire tube will allow you to change the damaged tire tube with the new one to keep on moving.

3. Safety Gear
Wearing a biking helmet offers great safety, but that's the start. A pair of protective padded gloves will help you keep your palms safe when falling and provide warmth when riding in cold conditions. Wearing trousers and shoes helps protect your legs from external weather conditions. Wear light, breathable fabric in summer while water-resistant and insulating clothes in winter and monsoon.

4. Be alert
If you are thinking of listening to your favourite podcast or playlist while commuting, you should probably forget about it. Just like your vision, your ears are critical when it comes to the flow of traffic. You will hear the happenings in your surroundings, which will help you make appropriate adjustments.

5. Be creative with the routes taken
When biking, the objective is to reach your destination safely and slowly. Always select extremely wide roads to bike on or those with dedicated bike lanes. Prefer to ride on quieter neighbourhood roads instead of those high-traffic ones, especially during weekends, to avoid harmful and drunk drivers.

6.  Ride along with a buddy
It will be easy for other vehicle drivers to spot two cyclists than one. Moreover, your buddy can prove to be a saviour in case of an emergency. Riding with your buddies will help you become more visible to the drivers and make your ride pleasurable with good company.

The list could go on and on about all the safety precautions you should take, but all these are essential tips. Follow these for an enjoyable ride no matter where you go, be it your office or your weekday getaway from your work.
